Cumnock (also known as Old Cumnock) is situated in the south west of Scotland, in the county of East Ayrshire. It has numerous historical associations spanning a wide range of timeframes. Perhaps to the fore is Cumnocks prominence in the Covenanting struggle, the numerous Covenanting memorials and graves in the area testify to this. Arguably one of the most interesting historical associations is New Cumnocks solid claim that William Wallace had a residence in Glen Afton.
One of the more comedic aspects of Cumnocks history relates to a covenant drawn up in 1800 by the local reverend and eighty two residents. This bond declared that the adherents would agree to have the amount of drinks consumed at funerals regulated. Apparently it was not uncommon for these ostensibly solemn occasions to become rowdy, hence the covenant. Some may say this tendency to imbibe a little more than is appropriate has descended through the generations and is apparent today :=).This site will attempt to be of interest to Cumnock residents and non Cumnock residents alike. Significant content will be Cumnock related with a broad range of subject matter hopefully being mulled over within the forums. Importantly, this site offers content which is hoped will be of interest to users.

The Alexander Peden article is also highly recommended, the photograph of Peden`s Cave on the River Lugar where it is said he hid from the dragoons itself meriting a look.
