The photographs above and below are of a monument dedicated to two farmers ececuted on this spot in 1685 for reading their bibles. It is situated directly opposite Corsencon hill just outside New Cumnock. They were George Corson and John Hair both of the parish of Kirkconnel. They were chanced upon by Government forces under Colonel James Douglas, they had just before gave chase to a known sympathiser of the covenant one James Campbell of Dalhanna in Glen Afton which ended in Campbell escaping. Perhaps this fruitless chase prompted Douglas to order the execution of the farmers so callously, justified merely by the fact that they were reading bibles.
